Polo: Malaysians to train in Argentina

KUANTAN: Four members of the Malaysian polo squad will train in Argentina next month in preparation of the Korat SEA Games in Thailand.

Royal Malaysian Polo Association president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said the four were Zulhairi Kosli, Saladin Mazlan, Shaik Reisman and Tengku Shahzrin Tengku Sulaiman.

"There is no polo championship from now until November and these players should enhance their fitness and technical capability before December," he told reporters after attending a briefing on the development of the Kampung Baru Chendor mosque here on Wednesday.

He said the squad would train in Pekan, Pahang, before the trip to Argentina.

Tengku Abdullah, who is also part of the squad, said the squad was confident of bringing back the gold medal from the SEA Games on Dec 5-16 although it was expected to face stiff competition from Thailand and the Philippines.

The last time Malaysia won gold in the event was in the 1983 SEA Games in Singapore, with the Philippines taking the silver and Singapore, the bronze. -- Bernama
